Lockport C.A.R.E.S. applied for CreateAthon 2019, seeking assistance with spreading awareness in the community and locating regular volunteers to open a new homeless shelter in Lockport. The organization needed to recruit, train and retain 50 volunteers, ages 18 or older, who could commit to a consistent shift each week. The volunteers would assist with such tasks as helping cook meals, working with guests in need of help scheduling appointments with social service agencies, or performing support work such as cleaning or laundry.
Starting with the development of an overarching concept (“We need you. But they need you more.”) JFG created billboards, print ads and radio spots to help increase their visibility and outreach. JFG also created a pull-up banner for Lockport C.A.R.E.S. to use at events in the community, as well as a brochure that outlined the goals and services of the organization. In addition, through the support of CreateAthon supporting vendors, JFG was able to secure production and placement of all materials. Finally, JFG provided the group with a social media guide, new images for their social platforms and initial templates to help them communicate with audiences online.
